Dave Hackett is a 20+ year veteran of the oil industry, starting with Mobil in Supply and Trading after a tour duty as a Navy pilot.

Stillwater Associates was formed in 1997 with the objective of providing services to clients with needs in the Downstream oil sector.

In 1999, Dave co-founded eLink Commerce, a technology company focused on reducing the transaction costs in coordinating the movement oil around the world.


Dave received his BS in Oceanography from the US Naval Academy in 1971. He earned a Masters in Education from California Lutheran University in 1975. Dave went back to school again and earned an MBA from the University of California, Irvine in 1997.

David R. Bulfin

Dave Bulfin has dealt with energy issues from various perspectives during a 30 year career working for international oil companies.

His main focus is developing and executing strategic operating plans to regain profitability.

Dave earned his MBA in Industrial Management from Purdue University. He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University.

Thomas E. Gieskes

Vice President

Thomas E. Gieskes is a Dutch national with over 20 years of international experience in the energy business and in petrochemicals. Supply chain management runs as a red line through a career that includes responsibilities in operations, logistics, marketing, project management, business development, and general management.

Having started his career with Dutch chemical multinational DSM, Thomas joined ARCO Chemical in 1981, moving through a quick succession of positions with increasing responsibilities in the Netherlands, the UK, and Indonesia, where he was country manager. From Indonesia, he joined ARCO Chemicals’ corporate manufacturing staff at its headquarters in Newtown Square, PA. After a project development assignment in France, Thomas was promoted to the parent company ARCO in Los Angeles to manage business development for ARCO’s natural gas reserves, including development of Gas-to-Liquids technology.

Following the merger of ARCO and BP, Thomas pursued a career in consulting and e-commerce, and teamed up with Dave Hackett when launching eLink Commerce, a software development venture for collaborative logistics applications.

Thomas is fluent in five languages. He holds a Masters in Technology Management from the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Wharton School of Business, a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University Twente in Enschede, the Netherlands, and certificates in marketing from the Petroleum Institute, Oxford University, Oxford, UK.

Gregg Haggquist

Vice President

Greg Haggquist has been an international petroleum products trader for over twenty years. He is the co-founder of MIECO Inc. He spent over fifteen years as the President and Chief Operating officer of MIECO, which grew from a grass-roots start-up company to one of the more active Energy Trading companies in the U.S. MIECO Inc. is wholly owned by Marubeni Corporation, one of the largest General Trading Companies of Japan.

Prior to launching MIECO, Gregg served in various marketing, operational and supply & distribution positions for Texaco on the U.S. West Coast. He moved on to become the West Coast Manager of BP North America Trading in the late seventies. In order to become more involved in international markets, particularly those in the Pacific Rim, i.e. Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Singapore & Australia Mr. Haggquist started up the leading Pacific Rim trading company of its day, Pilot Petroleum. From its base in Pacific Rim cargo and West Coast pipeline trading, MIECO became the highest volume distillate blender and marketer in East of the Rockies. It became a successful Natural Gas trading company and a leader in Electricity trading, as well as upstream gas and oil activities.

After a two-year assignment in China initiating a new China-based trading company under the Marubeni umbrella, he resigned as President of MIECO in order to set up his own Company, Monterey Global Energy (MGE) in April 2000. MGE has been involved in e-commerce, launching “OceanConnect.com” in Asia, the U.S. Gulf Coast and West Coast. It has consulted for Independent Retailers in California and most recently has become affiliated with Stillwater Associates working for the California Energy Commission, for West Coast Refiners and on other assignments.
